Yom Kippur 2024

Yom Kippur

Those who know me personally know that I am not a religious person, but I definitely do not deny the existence of any higher powers. I have already expressed my attitude to this holy day, and more than once.

As I’ve written before, it’s a time to stop and think about how we live our lives. And everyone agrees with me on that. Only there is a small problem – we have been trying for a whole year to understand how we live and how we will continue to live…, and no one can give an answer…

A year ago, our life stopped and went backwards. We still can’t understand why? Why our army slept through everything, and the valiant government could not get its act together, no one wanted to think about the war – it is much more pleasant to continue celebrating…

This horror has been going on for exactly one year. A third of the country is sitting in evacuation. Previously, only the South was under fire, and no one in the Center or the North thought about it. Now the whole country is under fire, and everyone is launching rockets at Israel… Our valiant Prime Minister no longer talks about “red lines”, because they haven’t existed – there is not a single point in the country where you will be safe. Except in the Knesset, where I’m sure the deputies have taken care of themselves.

The war continues, but enterprising businessmen are already taking excursions to the site of the “bloody” disco. And no one is confused by the fact that the blood that soaked the land has not yet dried, and the kibbutzim still smell of burning. They are already talking about the creation of a museum, and no one thinks about the relatives of the hostages, from whom there is still no news… About the parents of the dead soldiers, and about those “happy” whose children are alive and well, but… at the war. These parents live from one newscast to another, because their children cannot call – their phones are taken away from them before they cross the front line… God forbid anyone to be in the shoes of these parents…

On this holy day, it is customary to ask forgiveness from those who have been wronged. It is customary, but for some reason I don’t want to do it. I am waiting for one of the perpetrators of what happened in our country to commit hara-kiri, or at least to ask for forgiveness from me and millions of my fellow citizens. But the chances of this happening are getting smaller and smaller every day…

After a black period always comes a light one, I believe in it, otherwise it is just not necessary to live. And I wish us all Peace! Just a peaceful sky without air attacks and bombardments, and we can cope with the rest! Have a good year 5785, friends!
