Yom Kippur
Recently I read a little story. All Israelis know that from time to time the workers of the Jerusalem municipality take notes out of the Western Wall at night. They make place for new messages to the God. During this operation, one young man asked: how will He know about our prayers up there? – The answer was: These little notes are for us. He knows our desires from the moment we think of them…
In Judaism, it is believed that we mostly “make” our own lives, while those “above” only help us, protect us, and sometimes correct us. It is believed that depending on how the year was lived, we receive our predestination for the next year. On Yom Kippur, which this year begins on October 4, we usually keep a fast, pray and ask forgiveness of those we have offended, even unintentionally. In Yom Kippur we can understand what we have been doing wrong and correct our destinies for the next year. To take the right way if you have strayed…
You can believe it or you can consider it a religious fiction, that’s your right, but one thing I know for sure is that you cannot turn your life into a never-ending marathon. Sometimes you just have to stop and think: are we living the right life? Maybe we need to change something, not tomorrow, but today, now. Are we on the right road? After all, Yom Kippur exists so that we don’t lose orientation in our lives.
I want to wish all of you a Happy New 5783 Year and wish you all the best wishes for the coming year!
